De Land (də lănd`), resort city (1990 pop. 16,491), seat of Volusia co., NE Fla.; inc. 1882. It has dairies, citrus packing plants, and lumber mills. Other products are electrical and electronic parts, clothing, and medical supplies. De Land is the seat of Stetson Univ. Nearby are Native American burial grounds and Ponce de Leon Springs. In 2004, the artist exhibited her brilliant "Jokes" series--in which, again, added text is used to subvert existing shots--at the now-closed American Fine Arts and paid tribute to the late, dear "Keith Richards of the Art World" Colin de Land with an exhibition at Participant Inc.
