De Launay, Louis 

Born July 19, 1860, in Paris; died there June 30, 1938. French geologist.

De Launay graduated from the Higher Polytechnic School in 1884. He worked in the French Mining Department and the Geological Survey (director from 1930). In 1889 he became a professor of applied geology at the Higher Mining School in Paris. His principal works deal with the geology of mineral deposits, the mineralogy of crystalline rocks, and the mineral and thermal springs of Europe, Asia, and Africa. De Launay proposed the term “metallogeny.”
