deadbeat escapement [′ded‚bēt ə′skāp·mənt]
(horology) A watch escapement without recoil, having arresting faces of the pallets described by a circular arc whose center is at the pivot point of the anchor; escape-wheel teeth are contoured to give impulses to these pallet faces, over which they slide without recoil.
