On the southwestern border of GA, southwest of Albany; organized Dec 8, 1823 from Early county. Name Origin: For Stephen F. Decatur (1779-1820), U.S. naval officer during the War of 1812 and in actions against the Barbary pirates near Tripoli, who said ". . . may she always be in the right; but our country, right or wrong!"
