Established: 1947. Description: Dedicated to the protection of all native wild animals and plants in their natural communities. Works to protect endangered species and advocates new approaches to wildlife conservation that will help keep species from becoming endangered. Programs focus on the accelerating rate of extinction of species and the associated loss of biological diversity, and habitat alteration and destruction. Educates on how and where to watch wildlife. Members: 80,000. Dues: $15/year.
Publications: Defenders (bimonthly); free to members.
