Defibrator

 

a machine used in the manufacture of cellulose paper for preparing wood pulp. Chips are obtained by chopping up wood for pulp or waste products of sawmills; then these chips are steamed at a pressure of 10-12 kilograms-force per sq cm and a temperature of 165°-175° C and are afterward grated and mashed. The working parts of a defibrator are metal disks (fixed and rotating), between which the wood is grated. The capacity of a defibrator is up to 25 tons of air-dried pulp in a 24-hour period.
