Dehmel, Walter 

Born May 9, 1903, in Berlin; died there June 20, 1960. German writer (German Democratic Republic).

As a worker at a plant, Dehmel took part in the revolutionary movement. In 1928 he began publishing poems and stories in the workers’ press. Under fascism he was subjected to repressions. His postwar poems and songs were published in the collection In the Turmoil of That Time in 1947. He is well known as a translator of Soviet poetry and Scandinavian literature.
