Dehmelt, Hans G. (Georg) (1922–  ) physicist; born in Goerlitz, Germany. He came to the U.S.A. to perform research at Duke University (1952–55), then moved to the University of Washington (1955). A pioneer in the field of particle physics, he shared the 1989 Nobel Prize (with Wolfgang Pauli) for his work on trapping and separating ions and subatomic particles.
