Denali State Park Location: About 100 air miles north of Anchorage on Parks Highway. Facilities: 123 campsites, 2 public-use cabins, picnic sites, picnic shelter (é), toilets (some @di), drinking water (some @di), hiking trails (some @di), 2 boat launches, canoe/kayak rentals (at Byers Lake Campground only), informational bulletin boards. Activities: Camping, fishing, boating, hiking, rock climbing, wildlife viewing. Special Features: Situated between the Talkeetna Mountains to the east and the Alaska Range to the west, the park's spectacular landscape varies from meandering lowland streams to alpine tundra. Dominating this diverse terrain are Curry and Kesugi ridges, which together form a north-south alpine ridge 35 miles long. Roadside vantage points offer excellent views of Mount McKinley and the heart of the Alaska Range. The park borders on Denali National Park and Preserve (see separate entry in national parks section) to the west, and, except for roadside facilities, is essentially a wilderness.
