Denison

Also found in: Wikipedia, Hutchinson 0.03 sec.
Denison (dĕn`ĭsən), city (1990 pop. 21,505), Grayson co., N Tex., near the Red River; inc. 1873. It is a rail center with wineries and the manufacture of machinery, apparel, and metal products. The town was founded by the railroad in 1872 on the site of an old stagecoach station. Wealth from industry has preserved the beauty of the city's well-shaded streets, and local funds have converted (1968) the downtown area into a modern shopping park. President Dwight D. Eisenhower was born there, and his birthplace is open to visitors. Lake Texoma, north of the city, is impounded on the Red River by the huge Denison Dam. A state park is at the lake, and a wildlife refuge is in the area.
