Dennett, Daniel (Clement) (1942– ) philosopher; born in Boston, Mass. After earning an Oxford degree (1965) and teaching at the University of California (1965–71), he became a professor at Tufts, specializing in philosophy of mind and of the social sciences. He won prominence for such studies as Consciousness Explained (1991).
