Desecheo National Wildlife Refuge Address: c/o Caribbean Islands NWR Complex PO Box 510 Boqueron, PR 00622 Phone: 787-851-7258; Fax: 787-851-7440; Web: southeast.fws.gov/Desecheo Established: 1976. Location: 14 miles west of the northwest corner of Puerto Rico. Special Features: Three endemic species and subspecies of lizards are found on the island. Island once housed the largest red-footed booby and brown booby nesting colony in the eastern Caribbean. Habitats: 360 acres encompassing all of Desecheo Island. The island is extremely rugged and rocky, its highest peak at 676 feet. Access: Closed to the public due to the presence of unexploded military munitions. Wild life: Feral goats monkeys, and cats.
