Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
desktop computer
A single-user computer. It typically refers to a PC or Mac, but may also refer to Linux PC. Also called a "client computer" or "client" or simply a "desktop," the term implies stationary use, whether it resides on the top of the desk or under the desk in a tower case.

Contrast With Laptop or Server
Although the term desktop computer is usually contrasted with laptop, sometimes it refers to a user's computer in general, whether stationary desktop or portable laptop, in order to contrast it with a server. See desktop PC and desktop application.
