Detached Unit

    0.01 sec.
Detached Unit

a military unit not included in the composition of the appropriate higher-ranking military unit.

Examples of detached units are a detached signal battalion of a division or a detached tank regiment that is not part of any division. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45, detached units forming the reserves of armies or fronts or the Reserve of the High Command were used to reinforce troops operating along the main axis or to carry out missions that came up unexpectedly.
