Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area Location: 6 miles northeast of Rocksprings in the southwestern portion of the state. Access to the area may be obtained only by contacting Devil's Sinkhole Society (830-683-2287) to prearrange a tour. Facilities: Picnic sites, chemical toilet, trail (é). Special Features: Devil's Sinkhole is a vertical cavern with an opening measuring approximately 40 feet by 60 feet and a drop of about 140 feet to the main cavern below. Inside the cavern, freshwater lakes support two crustacean species found only here. Between March and October, evening visitors may witness a large seasonal population of Brazilian freetail bats emerge from the cave to forage.
