Dewsbury (dy z`bərē), town (1991 pop. 49,612), Kirklees metropolitan district, N central England, on the Calder River. It is a commercial center for heavy woolen textiles and has one of the world's largest rag-trading markets. There are woolen mills and blanket, carpet, and shoddy factories.
