In a radio interview, Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin said then-Cardinal Ratzinger was actually instrumental in standardizing the church's response to allegations of abuse. Rome--The doctrinal commission of the Spanish Episcopate has issued a rejection of the views of the Irish priest and writer Diarmuid O'Murchu, M. But, in an acknowledgement that would have previously been unimaginable, the archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, recently told the National Priests' Conference that "priests can be extremely authoritarian, arrogant, and self-minded," and he urged them to foster a "humble, listening church" at the parish level and above (Irish Times, September 29, 2004). |
