Dic, Ivan Osipovich 

(pseudonym of Ion Dicescu). Born May 1893 in Bucharest; died April 1938. Figure in the Rumanian workers’ movement, active participant in the struggle to establish Soviet power in Russia.

Die joined the socialist movement in 1909 and was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Rumania from 1910 to 1916. He was one of the editors of the party’s central organ, the newspaper România muncitoare (1910-12). Die deserted from the Rumanian Army for political reasons during World War I (1914-18). Finding himself in Petrograd, he joined the RCP(Bolshevik) in April 1917. In 1918, Die was the commissar of the Rumanian military-revolutionary committee in Odessa and Feodosiia. He was political commissar on the Eastern, Turkestan, and Southwestern fronts from April 1919 to December 1920. Die met V. I. Lenin in Moscow. He was a student at the Frunze Military Academy in 1921–22 and was engaged in teaching and scholarly activity in Moscow from 1922 to 1937.
