Also found in: Hutchinson 0.04 sec.
Dickinson, Anna Elizabeth (1842–1932) orator, lecturer; born in Philadelphia. Her youthful impassioned speeches on abolition and women's rights launched her on a public career that encompassed Republican political speeches during the Civil War and progressive lyceum lectures afterwards. After unsuccessful attempts at playwriting and acting, she spent her last 40 years in obscurity in New York.
