differential signaling |
Also found in: Wikipedia | 0.01 sec. |
differential signalingUsing two wires for each electrical path for high immunity to noise and crosstalk. The signals are sent down one wire as positive and the other as negative, and the circuit at the receiving end derives the signal from the difference between the two. It is superior to single-ended signaling, where the reference voltage is ground and can vary over long distances. In differential signaling, the reference voltage is controlled. Typically, twisted pairs are used so that external radiation impacts both wires at the same place, and the noise can be detected more easily. See SCSI. How to thank TFD for its existence? The MB board is the first to implement Memec's new P240 expansion slot, an enhanced interface providing both single ended and differential signaling capabilities at speeds in excess of 300MHz. Because data is encoded using 8b/10b encoding (an 80% efficient encoding used with digital differential signaling to maintain a constant average DC bias point), the effective maximum throughput is 150MB/sec. All advanced features of the ATH3101 are included in the BGA package option including: dynamic gain control for microphone and line inputs, 10-band graphic equalizers, bi-directional noise reduction, programmable gain input amplifiers and output drivers with fully differential signaling, dual 16-bit Sigma-Delta CODECs sampling, and sidetone cancellation. |
