Dikushin, Vladimir Ivanovich
Born July 26 (Aug. 8), 1902, at Samara, now Kuibyshev. Soviet scientist in mechanical engineering. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953; corresponding member, 1943); Hero of Socialist Labor (1969). Dikushin graduated from the N. E. Bauman Moscow Technical College in 1928 and since 1933 has worked at the Experimental Scientific Research Institute of Metalcutting Machine Tools. Under Dikushin’s guidance, a system has been worked out for combining machine tools (specifically from modular functional units and standardized machine tools) for working on rotating objects in automatic lines. Dikushin was chief engineer on the project for the first automated piston factory (put into operation in 1950). He won the State Prize of the USSR in 1941 and in 1951, and he has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, three other orders, and also medals.
