McDonald obtained the sample from the exhaust duct and passed it into a dilution tunnel with a dilution factor of 30:1 followed by a mixing chamber with a 90 s residence time to simulate the conditions expected after release into the atmosphere.
The lowest concentration of 10ml per liter is massively higher than is likely to ever occur in ambient sea water in reef areas, considering the enormous dilution factors.
