Dine, (James) Jim (1935– ) painter, sculptor; born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He studied at the Boston Museum School (1953–55), moved to New York City (1958), traveled to London (1967), and settled in Putney, Vt. (1970). Known as a new realist, he used many mediums, including "happenings" (a type of spontaneous performance), constructional sculpture, collage, and painting. He is noted for his preoccupation with hearts and bathrobes, as in his paintings, Untitled (Gloves) (1970–71), and So Many Different Colors (1976). How to thank TFD for its existence?
