Diplipito

Diplipito

(also nagara), a Georgian percussion instrument. It is a type of ceramic kettledrum, consisting of two clay vessels over whose mouths are stretched leather membranes. Sometimes a smaller clay vessel is added. To strengthen the sound the vessels are warmed slightly, causing the membranes to stretch and a more ringing sound to be produced. Two wooden drumsticks are used. The diplipito is used in folk orchestras.

Diplipito is a brooding work featuring the lyrical cello of Thomas Demenga and the haunting voice of Derek Lee Ragin.
For the most part, I believe more listeners will be enchanted with Diplipito than with this piece; still for those with an open musical mind, I recommend this recording.
