Discognathichthys
a genus offish of the carp family. They have a sucking disk on the lower lip and a pair of barbels in the corners of the mouth; the abdomen is black. The fish of this genus attain a length of up to 15 cm. They are widespread in the rivers of Southwest and Middle Asia and of northeastern Africa. In the USSR there is one species, Discognathichthys rossicus, which inhabits the Murgab and Tedzhen rivers in Turkmenia. The fish of this species grow to 9 cm in length.
