discrete logicA chip that contains one logic gate or a small number of logic gates. Although thousands of gates are routinely placed on a single chip, discrete logic chips with only one or two gates are also manufactured. These chips are used as "glue chips" between ASICs and other ICs typically to reshape and transfer signals. See logic gate and glue logic. How to thank TFD for its existence? The 6-pin devices provide a cost-effective replacement for many discrete logic or mechanical functions, substantially reducing component count and board space while giving engineers additional design flexibility. Spansion's new PoP solution vertically combines discrete logic and memory packages for board space savings, lower pin-count, simplified system integration and enhanced performance. Customers can purchase Texas Instruments discrete logic or other popular manufacturers, and all are priced well below other catalogs. |
