Revealed by a grid-dependence test of the adopted grid topology, the primary penetration length of four successive grid levels converges monotonously to a grid-independent solution, where the here employed grid density has a discretization error less than 2%.
Inaccuracy may also be caused by the discretization error, and the clipping of the [psi]-function to its limit values 0 and 1, which can be expressed as [psi] = min(1,max([psi],0)), and which is applied in the present work.
In this research, the discretization error was caused by the formulation of the FDTD method, and the round-off error was caused by continuously rounding off the digits during the simulation.
