(biochemistry)
One of a group of glycosphingolipids found in neuronal surface membranes and spleen; they contain anN-acyl fatty acid derivative of sphingosine linked to a carbohydrate (glucose or galactose); they also containN-acetylglucosamine orN-acetylgalactosamine, andN-acetylneuraminic acid.
