childhood disintegrative disorder [¦chīld‚hu̇d dis′in·tə‚grād·iv dis‚ȯrd·ər] (psychology) A condition occurring in 3- and 4-year-old children that is characterized by unequivocally normal development in the first several years of life, followed by a marked developmental regression (a child who previously had been speaking in sentences becomes totally mute), and various autistic features develop.
