dispersive power [də′spər·siv ‚pau̇·ər]
(optics)
A measure of the power of a medium to separate different colors of light, equal to (n2- n1)/(n- 1), wheren1andn2are the indices of refraction at two specified widely differing wavelengths, andnis the index of refraction for the average of these wavelengths, or for the D line of sodium.
