Disulfide Bonds

Disulfide Bonds 

(—S—S— bonds), bonds that are formed by the union of sulfur atoms of two mercapto groups. Crosslinking of polypeptide chains containing residues of the amino acid cysteine takes place with the formation of disulfide bonds.
