Name Origin: For the name applied to the Confederate States, from the song composed in 1859 by Daniel Decatur Emmett (1815-1904), said to be derived from a Creole pronunciation of the second name in the Mason and Dixon Line. Area (sq mi): 863.66 (land 704.01; water 159.65). Pop per sq mi: 20.80. Pop 2005: 14,647. State rank: 59. Pop change: 2000-20005 5.90%; 1990-2000 30.60%.
