Dnieper Reservoir
(V. I. Lenin Lake), a reservoir formed in 1932 by the dam of the Dnieper Hydroelectric Plant on the Dnieper, on the territory of the Zaporozh’e and Dnepropetrovsk oblasts in the Ukrainian SSR. Area, 420 sq km; volume, 3.3 cu km; length, 170 km; maximum width, 3.5 km; average depth, 8.2 m. The Dnieper Reservoir is divided into two parts: the upper, “river,” part between Dneprodzerzhinsk and Dnepropetrovsk (80 km) and the lower, “lake,” part between Dnepropetrosk and Dneproges (90 km). The construction of the Dnieper Reservoir facilitated through navigation from the mouth of the Dnieper to Kiev and higher. The cities of Zaporozh’e, Dnepropetrovsk, and Dneprodzerzhinsk are situated on the banks of the Dnieper Reservoir. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
