Dnieper Upland

    0.01 sec.
Dnieper Upland

an elevation situated between the middle Dnieper and Iuzhnyi Bug rivers in the Ukrainian SSR. It rises to an elevation of approximately 200 m in the north and 150 m in the south; the maximum elevation is 323 m. The upland’s foundation is formed by the Ukrainian Crystalline Massif, whose rocks are overlapped by clays, sands, loesses, and loess-like loams. Flat watersheds alternate with river valleys, which are often canyon-like and reach 60 to 80 m in depth. Most of the area is tilled. Winter wheat and corn are grown; there is intensive livestock raising; and horticulture has been developed. The Krivoi Rog iron-ore basin supplies iron ore, and the upland also has manganese ore.
