Dociostaurus Kraussi

    0.01 sec.
Dociostaurus Kraussi

a nongregarious insect of the family Acrididae. Body length, 16–31.5 mm. The pronotum has a light-colored X-shaped pattern; the rear femurs are thick at the base, and the tibiae are red or yellow. There are several subspecies, living in Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan; in the USSR it is found in the southeastern European part, Ciscaucasia, Kazakhstan, southwestern Siberia, and Middle Asia. It is a dangerous pest of grains, cotton, and cereals. It hatches in early spring, settles in dry steppes and ephemeral semideserts, and then migrates to crops. The female lays three to five packets (each containing five to 21 eggs) shal-lowly in the soil at the beginning of July and then dies. The control measures for Dociostaurus kraussi are the same as for the locust.
