Dodge, Joseph M. (Morrell) (1890–1964) banker, government official; born in Detroit, Mich. He rose from an impoverished childhood to become chairman of the Detroit Bank, later Detroit Bank and Trust (1933–63). He was a U.S. government financial advisor in Germany (1945–46). In Japan under General Douglas MacArthur (1949–50), he designed an economic stability plan that was responsible for Japan's postwar industrial rehabilitation. He was director of the federal budget (1952–54).
