Dogliotti, Achille Mario
Born Sept. 25, 1897, in Turin; died there June 2, 1966. Italian surgeon and foreign member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1962). Dogliotti received his medical education in Turin. He was director of the Institute of Surgical Pathology at the University of Modena (from 1935) and of the university surgical clinics in Catania (from 1937) and in Turin (from 1943). His principal works dealt with anesthesiology; abdominal, pulmonary, cardiac, and neurological surgery; shock; blood transfusion; and hypothermia in heart operations. He developed an operation for drawing bile from the intrahepatic ducts. Dogliotti founded (1935) and edited the journal Minerva anestesiologica. He was the founder, secretary (1934), and president (from 1955) of the Italian Society of Anesthesiologists and president and vice-president of several Italian and international societies of surgeons.
