Dolgushin, Aleksandr Vasil’evich 

Born 1848, in the city of Tara, present-day Omsk Oblast; died June 30 (July 12), 1885. Russian revolutionary.

A member of a noble family and the son of a petty official, Dolgushin enrolled in the St. Petersburg Technological Institute in 1866 and organized the so-called circle of Siberians in St. Petersburg in 1869. In 1871 he was a defendant in the trial of the followers of Nechaev. He was acquitted and led the Dolgushin circle from 1872 to 1873. Arrested in September 1873, he was sentenced to ten years of hard labor in 1874 and served in the Novobelgorod hard labor center. During his transfer to the Kara hard labor camp in 1881, Dolgushin participated in riots in the Krasnoiarsk prison and was sentenced to an additional ten years of hard labor. In 1883 he was transferred from Kara to St. Petersburg. He was put into the Peter and Paul Fortress and in 1884 into the Shlissel’burg Fortress, where he died.
