On southwestern border of CO, south of Grand Junction; organized Feb 19, 1881 from Ouray County. Name Origin: For the Dolores River, which runs through it; from Spanish Rio de Nuestra Senora de los Dolores, ' River of Our Lay of Sorrows.'
