Douglas, Jesse (1897–1965) mathematician; born in New York City. He taught at a number of American universities, including Columbia (1920–26), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1930–36), and New York City College (1955–65). Concentrating largely on geometry, his specialty was the problem of Plateau. He wrote over 50 papers on geometry and group theory. How to thank TFD for its existence?
