drifter [′drif·tər]
(mechanical engineering)
A rock drill, similar to but usually larger than a jack hammer, mounted for drilling holes up to 4½ inches (11.4 centimeters) in diameter.
(mining engineering)
A person who excavates mine drifts.
An air-driven rock drill used for excavating mine drifts and crosscuts.

drifter
A type of pneumatic, percussive rock drill.
