Drin (drēn), river, c.175 mi (280 km) long, formed at Kukës, NE Albania, by the confluence of the White Drin, which rises in Serbia (Kosovo province) and the Black Drin, which flows out of Lake Ohrid in S Albania. It is the largest river of Albania. The Drin flows generally west through deep gorges and then onto the coastal plain before turning south and entering the Adriatic Sea S of Lezhë. North of Lezhë, a distributary (formed 1858–59) diverts some of the flow to the Bojana River. The Drin is not navigable. |

" To this the king returned some answer, which, although I could not understand, yet I replied as I had been directed: FLUFT DRIN YALERICK DWULDOM PRASTRAD MIRPUSH, which properly signifies, "My tongue is in the mouth of my friend;" and by this expression was meant, that I desired leave to bring my interpreter; whereupon the young man already mentioned was accordingly introduced, by whose intervention I answered as many questions as his majesty could put in above an hour. |
