A family of dicotyledonous plants in the order Sarraceniales, distinguished by leaves that do not form pitchers, parietal placentation, and several styles.

Interestingly, Phylloglossum shares its habitat with other vascular plants that produce tuber-like structures with various modes of origin, notably Droseraceae, certain Stylidiaceae, and Utricularia menziesii R.
Among dicotyledons, Boesewinkel (1989) reported a remarkably similar nucellus type in the insectivorous dicot genera Drosera and Dionaea, but not in other genera of Droseraceae.
