The vinegar flies, a family of myodarian cyclorrhaphous dipteran insects in the subsection Acalypteratae, including the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster).

Drosophilidae 

a family of dipterous insects that develop in decomposing plant substances. The most common genus is Drosophila.
