Drozdov, Oleg Alekseevich 

Born Oct. 5 (18), 1909, in Bucharest. Soviet climatologist, doctor of geographic sciences (1948), and professor (1950).

Drozdov graduated in 1930 from the physics and mathematics department of the University of Kazan. He became chairman of the subdepartment of meteorology and climatology of the geography department of Leningrad State University in 1954. Drozdov was one of the originators of the theory of meteorological fields, which provided the scientific basis for his layout of the hydrometeorological network of the USSR. He has done research on the moisture content of the atmosphere and on general and mountain climatology. He developed methods for mathematically analyzing meteorological observations and for climatic mapping. He has been awarded three orders and a number of medals.
