Druskin, Mikhail Semenovich 

Born Jan. 1 (14), 1905, in Kiev. Soviet musicologist and teacher. Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1962). Doctor of the Arts (1946).

Druskin graduated as a musicologist from the Institute of the History of the Arts in Leningrad, where he studied under B. V. Asaf ev. He also completed piano study under O. K. Kalantarova at the Leningrad Conservatory. From 1915 to 1935, Druskin gave concerts. Since 1935 he has taught music history at the Leningrad Conservatory; he has been a professor there since 1947. Druskin’s research has dealt with a wide range of problems, including questions concerning western musical classics, contemporary music, the history of piano music, pianism, operatic dramaturgy, and the history of revolutionary song.
