Dubiago, Dmitrii Ivanovich
Born Sept. 21 (Oct. 3), 1849, in the village of Soino, now in Smolensk Oblast; died Oct. 22, 1918, in Kazan. Russian astronomer and specialist in theoretical astronomy, astrometry, and gravimetry. Dubiago graduated from the physics and mathematics department of the University of St. Petersburg in 1872. From 1884 to 1918 he was director of the Kazan Observatory, and from 1901 to 1918 he was also director of the V. P. Engel’gardt Astronomical Observatory, which he founded near Kazan. Between 1899 and 1905 he was rector of the University of Kazan. From the observations of Kazan astronomers made between 1869 and 1892, Dubiago compiled a catalog of 4,281 stars. He investigated the orbit of a satellite of Neptune and formulated a theory of the motion of the asteroid Diana. WORKSTeoriia dvizheniia planety Diany. Opredelenie okonchatel’noi orbity.
