Dublin, Louis Israel (1882–1969) health statistician; born in Kovno, Lithuania. His family emigrated to New York (1886). He turned a zest for biology and mathematics into a career as an actuary at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (1909–51). He influenced the keeping of accurate birth and death statistics across the country and wrote prolifically, including a once-popular book on suicides, To Be or Not To Be (1933). |
