Dubois, Stanisław

Born Jan. 7, 1901, in Warsaw; died Aug. 21, 1942, in Oswi^cim. Polish political figure and journalist.

Dubois joined the Polish Socialist Party (PPS) in 1918, was a leader of its left wing, and participated in the Silesian uprisings of 1919 and 1921. Elected deputy to the Sejm in 1928, he was a prominent member of the Centrolew, the bloc of reformist parties. He advocated a united front with the Communist Party. After the conquest of Poland by fascist Germany and the dissolution of the PPS in October 1939, Dubois united the left wing forces of the PPS and published under-ground socialist newspapers. The group he organized later joined the Polish Workers’ Party. Seized by the Gestapo in August 1940, Dubois was the first leader of the underground organization in Oswiecim and was executed in the concentration camp.
