Duct blaster

Duct blaster

Calibrated air-flow measurement system developed to test the air-tightness of forced-air duct systems. All outlets for the duct system, except for the one attached to the duct blaster, are sealed off, and the system is either pressurized or depressurized; the work needed by the fan to maintain a given pressure difference provides a measure of duct leakage.

The home tour, which will include blower door and duct blaster tests as well as an explanation of ENERGY STAR upgrades, is open to the press and will be immediately followed by a press conference.
Estimates of supply duct leakage were assessed at each collected data point by correcting for changes in the observed supply plenum operating pressure and using a power-law flow-leakage approximation following the procedures in the Duct Blaster manual and ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 152-2004, as shown in Equation 4 (ASHRAE 2004c; The Energy Conservatory 2007).
Airflow and duct leakage tests were conducted using an Energy Conservatory Duct Blaster and Model 3 Blower Door in accordance with ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 152 (ASHRAE 2004c).
For an even more in-depth analysis, SkyeTec's Energy Audit with HERS(R) measures the home's energy efficiency level using state-of-the-art testing, including a blower door test and duct blaster test.
The blower door, duct blaster, manometer, and infrared camera are the backbone of the rating system.
